Thank you for visiting the Area Businesses Care for BAS website.

By now, you have surely heard about budget deficits our school systems are facing across the state.  Area business depends on our local schools in many ways that you may or may not have realized.  Many area businesses employ the students at BAS.  The school system is one of the largest employers in the county.  Services were quite possibly brought to the area due to the high quality of our school system and the programs offered.  When Brighton Area Schools suffer, Brighton area business suffers.

As local business, all of this is important.  But, Lori (owner of Occasions with a Personal Touch) & I (owner of the Publix Eye) both have deeper ties in the school system.  She has two sons currently making their way through the schools.  I have two children who are future students.  And, I have  family that are teachers (though not in the Brighton system), who have instilled in me a strong admiration for the educational system and those involved.  So, Lori & I decided to be proactive.

In early February 2005, we met with Dave Pruneau and Jim Craig with the Brighton Area Schools regarding setting up a program for area business to give back to the school system. We were given the green light to formulate a plan.

The opportunity is two-tiered.

Employee Discounts
First of all, businesses are encouraged to join the Business to BAS program and extend a discount on product or service to any BAS employee.  It is time to give a little back to the hard working teachers and employees of BAS who are working hard to ensure our children’s futures.

Business Partners
The second thing we are asking of area businesses is to choose a product or service that you would be able to earmark profits toward a donation to the school system.   A perfect example of this is Mike Vance with Java Roasters.  Mike is producing a coffee blend called the “Bulldog Blend’ that will be on sale in his shop.  All profits from this blend will be donated to BAS.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our site and learn about the program.  Visit the links to the left to see what other area businesses are doing in support of Brighton Area Schools.  Also, please visit the participation page to find out how you can participate!
